VARIETIES OF SWEET CHERRIES

BURLAT

The tree of Burlat cherry is medium vigorous with a well-developed crown. 

It ripens mid-May and flourishes medium early. 

The fruits are medium-large, weighing around 7-8 grams, heart-shaped and with a shorter peduncle. 

The skin and the flesh are dark red in color. 

Suitable pollinizers for Burlat cherry include Lapins, Giorgia, Hedelfinger, Van. 

Burlat is considered to be one of the best quality cherries.

STELLA

The tree of Stella cherry is high and medium vigorous with a branchy crown. 

The yields are regular and abundant. 

Stella ripens in mid-June. It flourishes mid-late. 

The fruits are medium-large, 8-9 grams in average, slightly heart-shaped. 

The skin of Stella cherry is shiny and dark red in color. The flesh is medium firm to firm, crispy and tasty. 

Stella variety is a self-pollinizer.

HEDELFINGER

Hedelfinger cherry is a German variety. 

It has a vigorous tree that yields regularly and abundantly. 

It flourishes mid-late to late. Hedelfinger ripens at the end of June. 

The heart-shaped fruits are large and 8-9 grams in weight. The skin is red in color. 

The flesh is firm, juicy, red to dark red. 

Suitable pollinizers for Hedelfinger cherry include Bing, Stella, Summit, Van, Burlat.

SUNBURST

Sunburst sweet cherry variety originated in Canada and represents the result of crossing Van and Stella. 

The tree is medium vigorous. Sunburst cherry is an early bearer with regular and abundant yields. 

It ripens in mid-July and flourishes medium to late. 

The fruits of Sunburst cherry are exceptionally large and heart-shaped. 

The skin is shiny and red in color. The flesh is firm and crispy with an exceptional taste. 

Sunburst cherry variety is a self-pollinizer and represents the universal pollinizer for other varieties.

BING

Bing cherry is one of the oldest varieties still consumed. 

The tree is vigorous. Bing flourishes early to mid-early. 

The fruits are large, 8-9 grams in weight, rounded in shape. 

The skin of Bing cherry is dark red in color. The flesh is exceptionally juicy, firm, crispy, with an exquisite aroma and dark red in color. 

Suitable pollinizers for Bing cherry include Burlat and Van.

REGINA

Regina cherry is a newer variety that comes from Germany. 

It was developed by crossing Schneider Spate Knorpelkische and Rube. 

Regina cherry is a later bearer with regular and abundant yields. It is a late flourisher. The fruits are large, firm and exceptionally tasty. 

The skin of Regina is dark red in color. The flesh is firm and juicy with a sweet to sour taste. This cherry variety is prone to cracking. 

Regina is tolerant to winter frosts and bigger amounts of rainfall.

VAN

Van cherry variety originates from Canada. 

It ripens in mid-June.

It is a very young bearer with regular and abundant yields. 

Van cherry fruits are large, weighing 8 grams in average, heart-shaped. 

The skin is light to dark red in color. The flesh is firm, juicy, crispy, with a sweet taste and dark red in color. 

Suitable pollinizers for Van cherry include Burlat, Bing, Hedelfinger.

LYONS EARLY

Lyons Early is sometimes called Bigarreau Jaboulay. 

This is traditional variety with French origins.

It ripens in the third decade of May. 

The tree is medium vigorous to vigorous. Lyons Early is an early bearer with regular and rich yields. 

The skin is thin, shiny, dark red in color. The flesh is dark red with a sweet to sour taste, aromatic, firm, and juicy. 

Suitable pollinizers for Lyons Early include Van and Hedelfinger.
